[PATCH 0/5] Fixes for Fedora 43 (or other bitrot)

While away, I updated my laptop to Fedora 43.  Naturally a bunch of
things in the passt tests broke.  First there were the usual breakages
due to a new static checker version (also one real bug).  Then several
other problems.
