We usually try to avoid blocks to workaround warnings about mixing
declarations and code, unless it's really necessary. Here 'addr' and
'af' could be happily declared a few lines above.

This should be aligned under the ( above (just after it). By the way I
think it's a good example of why we do that: at a glance, it seems to
be on the same logic level as "return NULL;" otherwise.
